Why coaching for social change?

Welcome. It’s such a pleasure to have you here. If you don’t already know me, I’m Oriana. I’m a coach, consultant and facilitator with a background in peacebuilding and conflict mediation. For the majority of my career, I worked in the international development space. Here, I personally experienced and witnessed the unique overwork, overwhelm and anxiety people face in the social change sector, and any form of mission-driven work for that matter. Maybe you don’t work in development specifically, but you’re a teacher, nurse, activist, coach, civic leader, or other individual dedicated to serving your community. I don’t doubt that what I share here will resonate with you. Or maybe you simply have a vision for a better world and desire to understand how you can help cultivate more peace, love and patience in the world.

Your social impact

When I talk about social impact, it goes beyond the sector. Sometimes I’m afraid people will see what I do and, if they’re not directly engaged in change work, think “that’s not for me”. If you’ve had a similar thought, I encourage you to shift your view of social impact beyond the traditional definition and what you do for work. I encourage you to ask yourself what you care deeply about and how you desire to live your life in a way that honors what you value, whether it be social justice, sustainability, equality, etc. We’re all learning to navigate the human experience, and I invite you here to be curious and explore how you can and already do contribute to positive change in your community and the world.

My mission & approach

So, why do I do what I do? What called me to shift from my role as a program manager and consultant in peacebuilding and conflict mediation to my role as a career and leadership coach? Well, simply put, I want people to be able to do meaningful work in the world and make a positive impact without experiencing overwork, overwhelm, and anxiety at work. I feel we live in a society where self-sacrifice is at the heart of social impact work. Burnout at work is hampering our ability to tackle the world’s most pressing problems and navigate profound shifts in the way we live, work and lead.

I aspire to create a space for my peers and community to step back and reflect on the narrative of work and success ever-present in today’s capitalist culture and society and discover how we can all live more in alignment with our values, purpose, and natural energy flow. I aim to inspire and cultivate a new well-being culture in support of social change that prioritizes mental, physical, and emotional health and fulfillment.

Your inner well-being isn’t selfish, it serves the world. I believe that when you deepen and expand your inner growth and resilience as an individual, or within an organization or group, you are building a foundation for collective change. The way you show up for yourself directly impacts the way you show up in your work, relationships, family, and community. Therefore, I believe that it’s critical now more than ever to put your individual well-being first in support of the change you desire to see in the world.

My approach to coaching is compassionate, authentic, and grounded in a belief that individual well-being and resilience are key components of any profound and sustainable change work. When you learn how to understand and engage more deeply with yourself, others, and the world, you’re able to create more effective and meaningful change. I want to hold space for you to pause, explore what strategies, beliefs, or behaviors are no longer serving you, and take action rooted in a deep sense of self care and service to the collective. I want to help you do meaningful work from a place of personal power.
